It’s hard to find a European country with more diversity than Italy. From its mountainous northern provinces with their great winter ski resorts, stunning lake-land scenery and dynamic cities of Milan and Turin, the opera-capital of Verona and the incomparable Venice. Travel on through the rolling hills of Tuscany with Bologna, Pisa, Florence and Siena down to the Eternal City of Rome. Then beyond to the south – the city of Naples with Pompeii and Herculaneum close-by, onwards to Sorrento and the amazing Amalfi Coast.

On the other side of the country waiting to be discovered is the more rural area of Puglia which makes up the ‘heel’ of the Italian foot with its cities of Bari and Brindisi and Lecce and for unique accommodation, the cave hotels at Matera or the unique ‘Trulli’ at Alberobello. And finally, onto the islands – Sardinia and Sicily with their tropical all-year round temperatures. Not only does the scenery change as you head from north to south but so does the all-important food and wine with every region claiming that its is the best.
